Rottnest Island Visitors Embrace Acurix Managed Wi-Fi Service

We are delighted to let you know that our Rottnest Island Wi-Fi network served up 210,000 free Wi-Fi sessions to over 150,000 people throughout 2014. In fact, 2014 was a big year for Rottnest Island, which was proudly voted as Australia’s top destination to experience in 2014 by users of Experience Oz, as well as being named WA’s top major tourist attraction at the 2014 WA Tourism Awards.

The Rottnest Island Authority commissioned Acurix Networks to provide visitors to the island with a world-class free Wi-Fi experience.

Rottnest Island Authority CEO, Paolo Amaranti, said that the free Wi-Fi network is popular with visitors as it is always available and easy-to-use.

“Rottnest Island’s Wi-Fi network is fast and easy-to-use and, given the excellent coverage, it’s not surprising that so many of our visitors connect to stay in touch while they are here,” Mr Amaranti said.

The network is owned and operated by Acurix Networks as a fully-managed service for the Rottnest Island Authority. The managed service model covers design, installation and operation as well as support and maintenance, all for a simple monthly fee.

“The Rottnest Island Authority was attracted by our turnkey managed service model where we take care of everything and deliver a branded Wi-Fi experience to the island’s visitors,” said Grant Farrow, Managing Director, Acurix Networks.

The Wi-Fi network uses Acurix Networks multi-radio access points and cloud controller, which in turn supports features such as splash and banner advertising campaigns, detailed analytics and reporting, surveys, weather and news widgets, social login and local chat. Quad, redundant wireless links connect the Rottnest Island Wi-Fi network to a 100/100 Mbps fibre connection on the mainland.
